Where labor is cheap.

State Journal;" The North American Free Trade Agreement and the World Trade Organization, do not provide fair trade for the U.S., they are jointly responsible for the stagnant economic condition now existing in our country. Many American corporations have moved to foreign countries where labor is cheap. These corporations make huge profits because they ship their cheaper goods back to the U.S. duty free. Example, the Nike Corp. Moved to South Korea, Vietnam and China. Labor costs $10 to $11 per hour to make shoes in the U.S., but only about 11 cents per hour in Asia. These goods are shipped back to the U.S., after which the corporations dramatically increase the price of these imported goods to maximize their profits. Why has our government allowed this unfair situation to exist and become worse each day? Why? Because corporate America is donating millions, if not billions of dollars to political campaigns and political action committees. Our government has been purchased by U.S. corporate conglomerates, and many congressional delegates have become totally corrupt by accepting campaign donations and then voting for the conglomerate's best interest instead of what's best for the people. We should support Sen. John McCain and his proposal for campaign reform and honest government for a change. Incidentally, none of our Idaho congressional delegates support campaign reform. In view of the above, President Bush and all Idaho congressional delegates should be replaced next election."
And American People still need to ask why we our living on Food-Stamps, Un- Employment, Working 2-3 jobs per a Household, Crime is up, Prisons are full, More Americans on Anti-depressions then 10-years ago, Our Forest are Dying... And so is the American Dream !

Holy Moly!

What must the rest of the world be like?

Oh, ... geez!

You know, I have always found that a good dose of optimism goes further toward improving a situation, than does the kind of pessimism expressed in the above statement.

Yes you are right in your views but, I was also trying to get people to take off, the Rose Color Glasses in the world. And look around, at things for what they really are! You don't know how many times working with the public I have heard this statment from certain people's mouths: "We don't have those kind of problems in our community-I'm sure of it,Do we?" Yes we do! When Foodbanks are always running out of food, by the middle of the month! Homeless shelters are becomeing a waiting list game,to just get in. Or if you get in you can only stay 1-3 nights because not enough beds to go around, so you end up back on the first-come first-serve-list again. I will tell you for a fact, my own children's friends have had to come to my home, because they have no-heat & ele. & food in their own homes. Because their parent/parent's have to work, one or more jobs to make ends meet, each month. The children are lonely, don't want to go home to a empty house & no-meal waiting on the table for them. I see this every-day with just my childrens friends,I have seen about every-week or more in my life time. know alot of people that try,and never get ahead no matter what they do. But you know, they never quite! And after reading this you may ask why after all this misery, if like is so bad, don't people just give up? Why!..Because they still believe in each other. And we we're all taught, growing up!!

The American Dream is !! ...Hope-Pride-Respect...

I am not blind. I believe everything you just said. Life is not a bowl of honey cheerios. Yesterday, I spoke with a counselor at a typical, 30-day drug/alc rehab center. He showed me a picture of himself from seven years ago. The polaroid photo showed a gaunt, bearded homeless man in street clothes with hollow eyes. I could not believe the dichotomy. The figure in the photo was seven years 'older' than the same man I saw seven years 'later'.

The story I heard from him was not one of 'government programs and assistance got me to where I am today'. Rather, it was a story of a man who took personal responsibility for his situation (after having made a 'deal' with an invisible god).

I am fully aware of people who cannot help themselves. No thinking person of years can believe that legions of needful people (and innocent children) do not exist. I may live in a different part of the country from you, but nevertheless, I know 'there is never enough' to take care of the helpless the way we would want to. That is part of an eternal struggle that society participates in.

So there. We're on the same page.

However, I refuse to put it off on one man or one party. It aint that simple. Neither party has a lock on true compassion -- political parties do not control our destiny -- we do (our destiny includes the compassion we show for others). You and I, our next door neighbors, and theirs beyond ... are what make or break our country in the end.

Thanks for your comment.

I see we both view things alot,I don't dis-agree with you on the things you say,I agree. I was trying to just get a point across to the general public,on the true misery in our own country right here. You made the comment about the-counselor who turned his life around, this is what I was saying. I felt the american dream is and was. And your man found it, I'm very proud of him its a hard road to walk.

Yes, it is a hard road to walk. It always has been, and will be.

So where does that leave us this evening? It may lead us to the off-hand conclusion that, no matter what your personal politics may be, they do not matter much in the world of everyday life, V. Lenin's, Mao's, and Hitler's little revolutions notwithstanding. What really counts, in a 'free' world is the way we treat our fellows face-to-face, day after day.

. . . Go 'W'! (just kidding)(not really)

I think where this leads us. Is we are both very caring people, we try to do what ever we can to help our fellow person. And at times, are also willing to fight for what ever it means to protect what we both hold dear ... Would you say?
